Former professional soccer player Omar Bravo, the top scorer for Chivas del Guadalajara, was arrested in Zapopan by members of the Jalisco State Attorney General's Office's Investigative Police for alleged involvement in aggravated child sexual abuse, a crime for which he has been charged, the agency reported.

The arrest was made by personnel assigned to the Deputy Attorney General's Office for Specialized Investigations in Attention to Women, Girls, Boys, Adolescents, Gender, and Family, through an operation carried out in the center of the aforementioned municipality.

Following a formal complaint, the Public Prosecutor's Office compiled an investigation file with sufficient evidence to request and obtain an arrest warrant against Bravo, which was granted by the Tenth Court of Control, Prosecution, and Comprehensive Justice for Adolescents of the First Judicial District.

 

 

The defendant's defense invoked the duplication of the constitutional term, which consists of 144 hours, so the hearing where it will be decided whether or not to link him to the process will be until Friday, October 10.

Until then, the former soccer player had been ordered to be placed in pretrial detention "to ensure the continuity of the proceedings."

According to the investigation, Omar Bravo allegedly sexually abused a teenage girl on multiple occasions in recent months. Furthermore, it is suspected that he may have been involved in similar incidents previously

 

Following his arrest, the former player was brought before the judicial authority that issued the warrant to continue his trial. The State Attorney General's Office reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for children and adolescents and assured that it will continue its investigation to clarify the facts.

Bravo debuted in 2001 with Chivas del Guadalajara and became the club's all-time leading scorer, with 132 official goals. He also played for teams such as Tigres, Cruz Azul, and Atlas, and had spells with Deportivo La Coruña (Spain) and Sporting Kansas City (United States).

He also earned international caps for the Mexican national team, participating in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
